Buriti court rules FUNDEF interest must be included in teacher fund calculations

A court in Buriti, Maranhão, has ruled that interest from FUNDEF court orders must be included in the 60% portion of funds allocated to education professionals. The decision follows a civil public action brought by the Maranhão State Public Ministry regarding a payment of over R$ 21.6 million.

The ruling specifies that the calculation for teacher bonuses must account for the principal amount, monetary correction, and moratory interest, rather than just the principal. Previously, municipal legislation had excluded interest from the base used to calculate these payments for the period between April 2003 and December 2006.
