Burjeel Specialty Hospital launches Sharjah’s first PET/CT service

Burjeel Specialty Hospital has launched the first PET/CT service in Sharjah, expanding access to advanced cancer diagnostics and treatment planning within the emirate. The service is housed in the hospital’s Nuclear Medicine Department and is integrated with the Burjeel Cancer Institute (BCI).

Utilizing the GE Discovery IQ PET/CT system, the department provides molecular imaging for the diagnosis, staging, and treatment-response assessment of various cancers, including prostate, breast, brain, pancreatic, and gastric cancers, as well as neuroendocrine tumors and sarcomas. The technology features high-sensitivity detectors for faster scans and lower-dose imaging to reduce radiation exposure.

The Sharjah-based team will collaborate with BCI’s Nuclear Medicine team in Abu Dhabi to offer targeted radionuclide therapies, such as Lutetium-177 PSMA therapy and radioactive iodine therapy. The service operates in compliance with international radiation safety standards and Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation requirements.
