Burkina Faso adopts law to protect strategic enterprises
The Legislative Assembly of the People in Burkina Faso adopted a law on October 19, 2026, to regulate economic, commercial, and industrial entities deemed to have a strategic character. This measure is intended to consolidate the nation's economic sovereignty by prohibiting the total or partial privatization of state-owned structures identified as strategic.
By maintaining public control over these essential assets, the government aims to preserve national security, ensure stable supplies, and support economic development. The reform also provides a framework for industrial policy, allowing the state to take stakes in or strengthen its presence in the capital of strategic private companies. This approach is designed to encourage the local transformation of raw materials, create value-added activities, stimulate employment, and develop national industrial skills.
