Burkina Faso and Mali raise significant funds on regional markets
Burkina Faso and Mali have successfully raised significant capital through regional financial markets in West Africa.
Burkina Faso has listed two bond issuances on the Bourse Régionale des Valeurs Mobilières (BRVM) in Abidjan. Originally targeting 125 billion FCFA, the diaspora bond operation raised 151.5 billion FCFA. The securities include a bond with a 6.75% annual interest rate maturing in 2031 and another with a 6.85% yield maturing in 2033. These funds are reportedly being directed toward productive investments, with 85 billion FCFA allocated to the mining, cement, and industrial sectors. The listing allows for secondary market trading, providing liquidity for investors.
Mali also secured funding through the West African Monetary Union (UMOA) market, raising 60.5 billion FCFA. The operation exceeded its 55 billion FCFA target, seeing a coverage rate of 123.61% with total submissions reaching nearly 68 billion FCFA. The funds were raised through a 364-day Treasury bill and two Treasury bonds with maturities of 3 and 5 years. The interest rates for the bonds are set at 6% and 6.2%, respectively.
