Burkina Faso and Senegal implement major fiscal and defense funding shifts

In Burkina Faso, the Patriotic Support Fund (FSP) has reached a record mobilization of 250.16 billion FCFA as of September 29, 2026. This figure represents 125.08% of the annual target of 200 billion FCFA. During the third ordinary session of the FSP Orientation Council, Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo noted a significant increase compared to the same period in 2025, when resources stood at 142.60 billion FCFA. The funds are designated to support the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland, providing equipment and operational capabilities for military forces.

In Senegal, the administration under President Bassirou Diomaye Faye is implementing new economic measures focused on energy and social protection. Energy subsidies are set to increase to 790.3 billion FCFA in 2026, up from 250 billion FCFA previously, to mitigate the impact of rising oil prices. Prime Minister Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo stated that the government will shift from subsidizing products to subsidizing specific individuals to improve spending efficiency. Additionally, family security grants are projected to reach 70 billion FCFA in 2026 to support vulnerable populations.
