Burkina Faso celebrates academic excellence across multiple regions

Various regions across Burkina Faso are holding ceremonies to celebrate the 2026 School Excellence Day, honoring high-performing students, teachers, and educational staff.

At the national level, the fifth edition of the Journée de l’Excellence Scolaire (JES) is scheduled for September 4, 2026, in Ouagadougou. The event aims to promote values of discipline and patriotism within the educational system. This year, 187 laureates will be recognized, including 139 students, 26 teachers, 18 resilient teachers, and 5 pedagogical supervisors.

Local celebrations have already taken place in several provinces. In Bazèga, over 70 winners were honored following high success rates in primary and non-formal education. In Ténado, the ceremony focused on academic resilience in the face of local gold mining challenges. In Sourgou, students and teachers received supplies, bicycles, and certificates of recognition. Meanwhile, in Boudry, more than 60 educators and students were rewarded, including scholarships and motorcycles, following a 97.69% success rate in the primary school certificate exams.
