Sports Ambassador Charles Kaboré launched the first edition of the Ligue de l’Espoir in Ouagadougou on September 24, 2026. This national football competition is designed for players under the age of 17.

The tournament aims to identify and promote young Burkinabè football talent, ensure sporting succession, and provide a professional platform for football academies. For this pilot phase, 16 teams from academies and training structures in Bobo-Dioulasso and Ouagadougou will participate.

The 16 clubs will be divided into two groups of eight. One group will be based in Bobo-Dioulasso and the other in Ouagadougou. Matches within the groups will follow a home-and-away format, with the top two clubs from each group advancing to the semi-finals.
