Burkina Faso lifts four‑year ban on millet, maize and sorghum flour exports

Burkina Faso’s government announced the removal of a suspension on cereal flour exports that had been in place since February 2022. The decision, communicated in a statement on 21 July 2026 by Minister of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts Serge Gnaniodem Poda, permits the international sale of millet, maize and sorghum flour.

Exporters must obtain a Special Export Authorization (ASE) for each shipment, and any violation will be subject to legal sanctions. The policy shift aims to help domestic processing firms clear accumulated stockpiles, boost the country’s agro‑industrial sector and improve the trade balance while preserving national food‑security priorities.
