Burkina Faso Man Sentenced to Life for Double Homicide in Torokoto

On 30 July 2026 the criminal chamber of the Tribunal de Grande Instance in Orodara sentenced B. S. L., a 41‑year‑old man, to life imprisonment for the murders of S. C. and his nephew A. D. The killings occurred on 21 June 2026 in Torokoto, a village in the N’Dorola commune of Kénédougou province, and were linked to a long‑standing land dispute over a parcel that had been transferred by the victims’ grandfather to a Peul family that later fled to Mali. During the trial the accused first claimed the shots were accidental, but later admitted he had gone to the disputed field with the intention of confronting the victims and had threatened them with death. The prosecution sought a perpetual sentence; the court acquitted the defendant of an alleged attempted murder of a third person, C. S., and imposed the life term for the two homicides.
