Burkina Faso Military Academy Names Officer Class After Fallen Lieutenant Alexandre Bienvenu Sawadogo

The Georges‑Namoano Military Academy in Pô has named its 25th promotion of active officer cadets after Lieutenant Alexandre Bienvenu Sawadogo, who was killed on 25 February 2022 when an improvised explosive device detonated during a Quick Reaction Force mission near Zembennega. The ceremony highlights Sawadogo’s commitment, duty and sacrifice, and is intended to serve as a moral example for future officers of the Burkina Faso National Armed Forces.

President Captain Ibrahim Traoré used the occasion to stress the importance of training competent officers in‑situ to defend the nation’s territorial integrity and to counter what he described as imperialist threats, linking the promotion’s naming to broader goals of revitalising the country’s defence and security structures.
