Burkina Faso Minister Pingdwendé Ouédraogo Promotes Revolutionary Cinema and Culture‑Sport Growth Plan

On 6 August 2026, Burkina Faso’s Minister of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism, Pingdwendé Gilbert Ouédraogo, chaired the official launch of the “Jeudis du Cinéma révolutionnaire” at the Thomas Sankara Memorial. The monthly screenings are intended to use cinema as a tool for preserving revolutionary memory, fostering civic education and awakening public consciousness.

A few days earlier, on 4 August 2026, the same minister led a mid‑year review of the “Culture, tourism, sport and leisure” sectoral dialogue. He stressed that culture and sport are being positioned as engines of employment, wealth creation and international visibility for Burkina Faso. The review highlighted achievements such as the 22nd National Culture Week in Bobo‑Dioulasso, the AES Fraternity Week, and the fourth edition of the Burkinabè Heritage Month, underscoring the government’s commitment to a strategic growth plan for the cultural and sporting sectors.
