Burkina Faso officials confirm wheat flour availability amid shortage rumors

Authorities in Burkina Faso have addressed rumors regarding a wheat flour shortage that has reportedly led to bakery closures and potential bread price increases. Sanibè Faho, coordinator of the Brigade mobile de contrôle économique et de la répression des fraudes (BMCRF), conducted unannounced inspections of production facilities in Ouagadougou to verify product availability.

At the Moulin double star M2S plant in Gampéla, officials reported a stock of 18,000 tonnes of wheat. The facility operates 24 hours a day, producing approximately 220 tonnes of flour and 80 tonnes of bran daily.

Similarly, the Moulin minor S. A. plant in Kossodo reported that operations have stabilized following earlier supply chain difficulties related to freight. The facility maintains a 5,000-tonne silo stock and expects to receive an additional 30,000 tonnes of wheat from Lomé and Abidjan shortly. This plant produces 340 tonnes of wheat flour per day.
