Burkina Faso Parliament Ratifies Montreal Protocol and Installs New Deputies

On 3 August 2026 the National Assembly of Burkina Faso, chaired by Dr Ousmane Bougouma, approved a bill authorising the ratification of the 2014 Montreal Protocol, an amendment to the Tokyo Convention that strengthens legal measures against offences on aircraft. The law expands the powers of captains and security agents, broadens state jurisdiction for prosecutions and improves international cooperation on aviation safety.

In the same plenary session the Assembly validated the mandates of twenty newly appointed deputies, with eighteen present to take their seats. The new members, selected from regional forces, civil‑society organisations and security forces, replace outgoing legislators following the adoption of the Charter of the Progressive Popular Revolution. The list includes Bélibi Nébié, Fatoumata Sawadogo, Ousmane Ouédraogo and others, and a training session for parliamentary procedures was announced.
