Burkina Faso and Togo advance bilateral cooperation and banking reforms

In Burkina Faso, Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo met with Chinese Ambassador Zhao Deyong to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in agriculture, health, defense, and technological infrastructure. The Prime Minister also presided over the monthly national flag-raising ceremony, where he emphasized patriotism, honored defense forces and agricultural producers, and reported a 72% physical realization rate for the Prime Minister's office for the first eight months of 2026. Additionally, the Ministry of Justice held its own flag-raising ceremony to encourage staff commitment toward national reconstruction.

In Togo, the Council of Ministers, led by President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, adopted several legislative measures. Key actions included the ratification of a convention to govern the Banking Commission of the West African Monetary Union (UMOA) and the adoption of a bill regarding banking regulation in Togo. These reforms aim to strengthen banking supervision, protect depositors, and ensure financial stability within the UMOA framework in response to technological innovations and evolving market risks.
