Burkina Faso provides 15,000 tonnes of subsidized cereals for animal feed

The government of Burkina Faso has launched an initiative to provide 15,000 tonnes of cereals to feed producers at subsidized prices. Officially launched in Bobo-Dioulasso by the Minister Delegate in charge of Animal Resources, Dr. Amadou Dicko, the operation aims to support the livestock sector and reduce the cost of animal feed.

This measure is part of the 2026-2028 Agropastoral, Hydraulic, and Fisheries Offensive, which seeks to build upon the progress made during the 2023-2025 phase. The cereals are sourced from field collections conducted by SONAGESS.

Feed producers have reported that the subsidized price represents a reduction of more than 50%. Officials, including SONAGESS Director General Alfred Kola, have emphasized that these stocks are strictly intended for livestock and poultry feed and must not be diverted for human consumption.
