Burkina Faso Reaffirms Commitment to Voluntary Refugee Return in Tripartite Meeting

On 30 July 2026 a Burkinabè delegation led by Ambassador Vlé Fulbert Traoré participated via videoconference in the technical working group of the Burkina Faso‑MaliUNHCR Tripartite Commission. The session reviewed progress on the voluntary repatriation of refugees, highlighted challenges, and sought to improve coordination among the three parties.

Traoré stressed that the process, launched under the 2015 Tripartite Agreement and updated in 2024, relies on strong political and humanitarian commitment. He called for safe return, access to basic services, socio‑economic reintegration, and close collaboration between the states, UNHCR, partners and host communities. The meeting aimed to harmonise approaches, share return intentions and outline concrete actions to strengthen refugee protection.
