Burkina Faso sanctions 17 transport companies over fare hikes
The government of Burkina Faso has imposed financial penalties on 17 transport companies following unilateral increases in road passenger fares. An interministerial decree signed on August 28, 2026, by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Aboubakar Nacanabo, and the Minister of State for Territorial Administration and Mobility, Émile Zerbo, targets companies including Rakieta, TSR, SKI, FTS, STAF, TKF, TTE, Sotradif, CTKE Ways, Royal Transport, Helena, Rahimo, Lere Transport, Farafina Tours, Saramaya, SBTA, and Ctrof.
The penalties are calculated based on sums unduly collected due to fare hikes observed since August 22, 2026. Minister Zerbo noted that despite a prior request to the National Federation of Road Transport Actors (FENAT) to maintain current rates during negotiations, the federation proceeded with unilateral increases ranging from 500 F CFA to over 1,000 F CFA.
