Burkina Faso secures funding for social resilience and strategic sectors
Burkina Faso is set to mobilize 67.2 billion FCFA to bolster the economic autonomy of vulnerable households. The government has approved the ratification of $120 million in financing from the International Development Association (IDA), a member of the World Bank Group. This funding supports the Economic Empowerment Project for Poor and Vulnerable Households for Resilience and Adaptive Social Protection (PARPS).
The five-year program aims to organize 120,000 vulnerable households into community cooperatives, targeting the creation of 4,800 cooperatives and 1,200 local economic units. To support production and transformation, the project includes significant investments in logistics and storage, such as the construction of multiple warehouses and the acquisition of various heavy vehicles.
In a separate development, Burkina Faso's Minister Delegate for the Budget, Fatoumata Bako/Traoré, met with an International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation led by Jaroslaw Wieczorek. The discussions focused on national economic outlooks, the ongoing joint economic and financial program, and potential strategic financing for the solar energy and agriculture sectors.
