West African nations implement new road safety and urban resilience measures

Various West African nations are implementing new measures to improve public safety and infrastructure. In Chad, the Ministry of Transport launched a dedicated road safety brigade through ONASER to increase agent presence on major roads, focusing on prevention and driver awareness rather than just sanctions.

In Burkina Faso, ONASER is conducting joint operations with police and gendarmerie in urban centers like Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso to enforce helmet use, alcohol testing, and vehicle equipment standards. Additionally, regional authorities in Bobo-Dioulasso are calling on the private sector to prioritize local product transformation to create jobs.

In Senegal, Minister Moussa Bala Fofana inspected urban resilience projects in Diourbel, noting improvements in road accessibility and flood prevention through new drainage works. Meanwhile, in Satiri, local authorities have issued a seven-day ultimatum to residents to eliminate standing water around homes to mitigate health risks.
