Burkina Faso signs roaming agreements with Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, and Senegal
Burkina Faso has signed three bilateral mobile roaming agreements with Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, and Senegal to reduce communication costs for travelers. The signing ceremony took place on October 23, 2026, in Ouagadougou, presided over by Dr. Aminata Zerbo/Sabané, the Minister of Digital Transition, Posts, and Electronic Communications.
The agreements involve the regulatory authority of Burkina Faso (ARCEP) and the telecommunications regulators of the three partner nations, all members of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA). The initiative aims to provide more accessible and transparent tariff conditions for mobile users, including calls, SMS, and internet access, when crossing borders.
Officials noted that the agreements are intended to support students, traders, entrepreneurs, transporters, and families who rely on regular cross-border communication. While the signing marks a significant regulatory step, officials emphasized that the effective reduction of communication bills depends on the successful implementation of these commitments by the respective telecommunications operators.
