Burkina Faso wrestlers secure eight medals at Burundi tournament

The Burkina Faso wrestling delegation has returned from a regional tournament in Burundi, securing eight medals and a historic third-place finish in the overall team rankings. The medal haul includes three gold, two silver, and three bronze medals earned across both freestyle mat wrestling and sand wrestling disciplines.

Upon their return to Ouagadougou, the athletes were officially received by the Fonds d’Appui au Sport et à la Presse Privée (FASP). During the meeting, FASP Director General Ida Ouédraogo/Paré described the achievement as a positive return on investment for Burkinabè sports. Ousenni Kabré, president of the Burkina Faso Wrestling Federation, expressed gratitude for the financial and logistical support provided by the fund, which enabled the team's participation.

Following a festive welcome at the Ouagadougou international airport organized by the National Union of Etalons Supporters, Kabré emphasized the need for increased preparation time for future competitions. He noted the rising level of performance within the discipline and reiterated the federation's long-term ambition to secure an Olympic medal for the country.
