Burlington Stores reports strong Q2 sales and earnings growth

Burlington Stores reported strong financial results for its second quarter, marked by an 11% increase in total sales and its 15th consecutive quarter of double-digit earnings per share (EPS) growth. Adjusted EPS rose 38% to $2.37, while the adjusted EBIT margin expanded by 100 basis points compared to the previous year.

The company noted that it received $55 million in tariff refunds during the quarter. Rather than treating this as a one-time earnings boost, CEO Michael O'Sullivan announced plans to reinvest the full amount into the business during the second half of the year. This strategy aims to provide sharper customer value and lower prices to assist moderate- and lower-income households facing rising living costs.

While total sales grew significantly, comparable-store sales increased by 2%, down from 5% in the prior-year period. Management attributed this deceleration to rapid store expansion, noting that new-store cannibalization reduced comparable sales by approximately 1.5 percentage points.
