Burna Boy and Tems receive 2026 MTV VMA nominations

Nigerian artists Burna Boy and Tems have received nominations for the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards. The nominations were announced ahead of the ceremony scheduled for September 27 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

Burna Boy is nominated in two categories for ‘Dai Dai’, his collaboration with Shakira that serves as an official song for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He is competing in Best Collaboration and Best Latin. Tems earned a nomination for Best R&B for ‘Raindance’, a collaboration with British rapper Dave that previously reached number one on the United Kingdom Singles Chart.

The 2026 awards cycle marks a shift in MTV’s programming, as the dedicated Best Afrobeats category has been removed from the lineup. This follows previous years where artists such as Tyla, Rema, and Selena Gomez won in that specific category.
