Burnaby Highway 1 crash leaves two dead and one injured

Two people died and one person was injured following a two-vehicle collision on Highway 1 in Burnaby in the early hours of September 23. The incident occurred around 12:15 a.m. when a pickup truck traveling eastbound entered the westbound lanes and collided with a four-door sedan traveling westbound.

Two passengers in the sedan were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the sedan was transported to a hospital with serious injuries that are not considered life-threatening. The driver of the pickup truck was arrested and taken to the Burnaby RCMP detachment for investigation.

Authorities believe alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the crash. The Burnaby RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service are investigating the incident. Police are requesting witnesses or anyone with dash-cam footage from the area between 1st Avenue and Gaglardi Way to come forward.
