Burnaby man, 85, killed by stray bullet in his home

An 85-year-old man, Chang Yong Cho, was killed by a stray bullet while inside his Burnaby, B.C., home on August 30. Police responded to reports of shots fired near 18th Avenue and Humphries Avenue at approximately 1:30 a.m., but no victims were initially located. Hours later, during a wellness check at an apartment in the 7400-block of Kingsway, officers discovered Cho with a gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has identified a group of youths, all under the age of 18, who are believed to be involved in or have knowledge of the shooting. Investigators are working to locate these individuals to establish their roles in what is believed to be a personal dispute.

Cho’s sons, Justin and David, released a statement expressing they are “shattered” and “devastated” by the senseless loss of their father. They are appealing to the community and the youths involved to come forward with information to help advance the investigation.
