Burnaby RCMP increases e-scooter and e-bike enforcement
The Burnaby RCMP has launched a targeted enforcement campaign for e-scooters and e-bikes following a rise in non-compliance. During a recent operation, officers issued 57 violation tickets.
Key regulations for riders include a minimum age of 16, a maximum speed limit of 25 km/h, mandatory helmet use, and prohibitions against wearing earbuds or riding with multiple passengers. Authorities noted that previous attempts to rely solely on education have been ineffective as violations continue to increase across the Lower Mainland.
Local repair shop ProMechBC highlighted that mechanical maintenance is also a critical safety factor, noting that poorly maintained brakes and tires can lead to preventable accidents and injuries.
