Burnett River flood study enters final phase with updated mapping

The Burnett River and Tributaries Catchment Flood Study has entered its final phase, providing updated flood maps for one of Queensland’s largest river systems. The study incorporates data from major historical flood events in 2010, 2013, and 2022, as well as a significant flood event in March 2026, which allowed engineers to validate the models against real-world observations.

Developed in collaboration with councils across five local government areas, including the Bundaberg Regional Council, the study utilizes advanced modelling technology and local knowledge. The resulting maps are intended to guide future land-use planning, infrastructure design, emergency response, and flood risk management. Residents are invited to review the final maps and attend sessions to see how community feedback has been integrated into the refined models before the study's completion in October.
