Burnham Square Triumphs in Arlington Million at Colonial Downs

Burnham Square, a 4‑year‑old gelding bred by Liam’s Map, won the Grade 1 Arlington Million on Saturday at Colonial Downs in New Kent, Virginia. Riding under jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. and trained by Ian Wilkes, the horse took the lead at the sixteenth pole and held off rivals to finish in 2:00 over the 1¼‑mile turf, earning the $1 million purse.

The victory marked Burnham Square’s fourth consecutive win and his second Grade 1 triumph, following a dirt win in the Blue Grass Stakes. The race set a record handle of $10,790,616 for the track. Wilkes indicated the next targets are the Kentucky Turf Cup on September 5 and the Breeders’ Cup Turf on October 31 at Keeneland.
