Bursa black fig harvest in Türkiye to begin soon

The Turkish fig season is entering a period of acceleration as the harvest for Bursa black figs is expected to begin within days, with volumes projected to increase from mid-August. According to Akin Söyleyen, marketing manager for fruit exporter Aksun, the overall crop quality appears good and growing conditions have been favorable.

While warm weather in Türkiye has tended to bring harvests forward by accelerating fruit ripening, officials suggest this is manageable as long as extreme weather does not occur. The sector is looking toward a positive season with stable pricing. Last season, Türkiye exported 20,112 tons of fresh figs valued at $94 million, with black figs accounting for $76 million of that total. For the upcoming season, the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters' Association has set an export target of $100 million.

Despite positive outlooks for production, the Turkish fresh produce sector continues to face challenges regarding rising costs for energy, labor, packing, and logistics.
