Bitlis and Elazığ report increased honey yields due to favorable weather

Agricultural reports from Turkey indicate a positive season for honey production in the regions of Bitlis and Elazığ, driven by favorable weather conditions. In Bitlis, sufficient rainfall following previous droughts has revitalized the natural flora, including thyme and broom, facilitating easier access to nectar and pollen for bees. Bitlis Governor Ahmet Karakaya noted that the province produces approximately 2,100 tons of honey annually, accounting for about 2.2% of Turkey's total production. The region holds a significant position in the industry, ranking first in Turkey for traditional 'black hives' and fourth for total bee colonies.

Similarly, in Elazığ, heavy winter snow and abundant spring rains have boosted the local flora. Fırat Canbay, President of the Elazığ Beekeepers Association, reported a 20% increase in yield per hive. While producers harvested approximately 6 kilograms per hive last year, they are now expecting between 8 and 10 kilograms. This meteorological balance has also led to a 20% increase in active bee colonies within the region.
