Bursa City Hospital to Open 1,250‑Space Parking Lot Amid Turkey’s Urban Parking Crisis

The Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, represented by Deputy Mayor Şahin Biba, is completing a new open‑air parking facility for Bursa City Hospital. The project covers about 31,500 m², includes ground preparation, filling and infrastructure works, and will provide capacity for 1,250 vehicles. Completion is targeted for August, when the lot will be opened to patients, visitors and hospital staff, alleviating the chronic parking shortage at the medical centre.

Turkey’s major cities face a broader parking deficit. In Istanbul, 6.292 million registered cars compete for only 1.143 million official parking spaces – roughly one spot for every six vehicles. Studies show that searching for parking generates about 20 % of urban traffic, adds 7–20 minutes per trip, and wastes 35–40 litres of fuel per driver annually, costing 2,500–5,000 TL. The shortage also depresses demand for homes without parking, inflates prices for properties with spaces, and discourages second‑car ownership. City planner Ramazan Kuloğlu notes that parking spaces are increasingly treated as independent real‑estate assets.
