Bursa City Theatre celebrates 20th anniversary with exhibition and play premiere
The Bursa Metropolitan Municipality City Theatre is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a special exhibition and the premiere of a landmark play. To mark two decades of artistic history, an exhibition featuring costumes, stage decorations, posters, and photographs from various eras is currently open at the Ressam Şefik Bursalı Art Gallery.
To launch the 2026-2027 season, the theatre held a premiere of ‘Sersem Kocanın Kurnaz Karısı’, a play written by Haldun Taner and directed by Mustafa Kurt. This production holds historical significance for the institution, as it was the very first play performed by the City Theatre upon its opening 20 years ago. The performance, held at the Tayyare Culture Center, is dedicated to the memory of the theatre's founding artistic director, Feyha Çelenk, who passed away in 2026.
The play explores the development of Western-style theatre during the Ottoman Tanzimat period, focusing on the struggles of the Tomas Fasulyeciyan theatre company through a humorous lens.
