Bursa court orders manufacturer to pay compensation after dishwasher fire

A consumer court in Bursa, Turkey, has ordered a white goods manufacturer to pay 135,418.50 Turkish Lira in compensation to a resident following a house fire. The incident occurred in 2022 in the Osmangazi district when a dishwasher caught fire while the homeowner, Kevser Kandemir, was sleeping with her children.

An expert report determined that the fire was caused by an electrical arc at the plug connection point of the dishwasher, identifying a ‘hidden defect’ in the appliance. The court's ruling includes 85,418.50 TL for material damages and 50,000 TL for non-pecuniary damages to address the psychological trauma and loss of property experienced by the family.
