Bursa develops urban resilience declaration to mitigate disaster risks

The Bursa Metropolitan Municipality has begun developing the ‘Bursa Disaster and Urban Resilience Declaration’ to increase the city's resistance to earthquakes, floods, landslides, fires, and storms. The initiative aims to transform urban resilience into a legal, administrative, and moral commitment for all municipal departments and subsidiaries.

Led by Deputy Mayor Şahin Biba, the project is being conducted in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The declaration is based on scientific analyses of the city's technical, physical, and social vulnerabilities. The goal is to move beyond verbal intentions by turning scientific findings into concrete, measurable, and financially realistic actions.

During a recent evaluation meeting involving municipal departments and academic chambers, officials emphasized that the declaration focuses on risk reduction and minimizing loss of life and property through scientific planning and infrastructure investment.
