Turkey reports various traffic violations and regulatory warnings
Various traffic-related incidents and regulatory updates have been reported across Turkey. In Kayseri, a driver facing previous license revocation for alcohol offenses was fined 350,000 TL after crashing a panel van into a sidewalk, refusing an alcohol test, and obstructing medical teams. In another Kayseri incident, a driver with hearing and speech impairments was fined 65,000 TL for driving without a license while intoxicated following a collision with a bus.
In Bursa, metro services were temporarily suspended after an intoxicated individual climbed a high-voltage pole on the metro line, prompting police negotiators to intervene. In Tokat, a driver was fined 100,000 TL for illegal passenger transport (pirate taxiing), resulting in a two-month vehicle ban.
Regarding regulations, experts warn motorcycle riders that license eligibility is determined by engine power (kW) and power-to-weight ratios rather than just engine displacement (cc). Misunderstanding these technical criteria can lead to significant fines. Additionally, discussions are underway regarding increasing driver training hours and implementing a ‘Free Route’ model to improve driver reflexes and safety.
