Bursa Efek Indonesia aims for top‑10 global ranking and prepares gold ETF launch
The new board of directors at Bursa Efek Indonesia (BEI) has set an aggressive target to lift Indonesia into the world’s top‑10 stock exchanges by 2030. The plan calls for a market‑capitalisation of roughly IDR 30 000 trillion, daily transaction values of IDR 31 trillion, 35 million investors and more than 1 100 listed companies. Currently BEI ranks 19th by market value and 17th by daily turnover, meaning the exchange would need to grow roughly 200 % in four years, backed by structural reforms such as higher free‑float thresholds and improved corporate quality.
In parallel, BEI is advancing a new gold‑backed Exchange‑Traded Fund (ETF) that will trade on the exchange. The product will offer retail and institutional investors exposure to physical gold meeting LBMA‑or‑SNI‑standard purity, with a Sharia‑compliant structure approved by the DSN‑MUI. The ETF is presented as part of BEI’s broader push to diversify investment options, improve market liquidity and attract a growing base of more than 27 million domestic investors.
Both initiatives are intended to broaden participation, increase market depth and position Indonesia’s capital market as a more attractive hub for domestic and global investors.
