Bursa hosts symposium on Ottoman history for 700th conquest anniversary
As part of the 700th anniversary of the conquest of Bursa, the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality organized a symposium titled ‘Bursa, the Capital of Foundation’ at the Tayyare Cultural Center. The event focused on the historical role of Bursa during the establishment and rise of the Ottoman Empire.
Academic speakers Prof. Dr. Tufan Gündüz and Prof. Dr. Haşim Şahin discussed the city's significance. Prof. Gündüz noted that Bursa was the last major Byzantine city in Anatolia and emphasized that the foundations of the Ottoman Empire were built there, comparing its importance to Konya for the Seljuks. Prof. Şahin highlighted the religious and political continuity of the Ottoman state, tracing the principle of i’la-yı kelimetullah from Ertuğrul Gazi through subsequent leaders.
The program, coordinated by the Department of Urban History, Promotion, and Tourism, was attended by Bursa Deputy Governor Salih Altun and Department Head Aziz Elbas.
