Bursa Malaysia sees RM127 million foreign institutional inflow

Foreign institutions on Bursa Malaysia ended a six-week streak of net selling by recording a net inflow of RM127 million last week. This inflow occurred during a shorter trading week as the market closed on Wednesday for Malaysia Day. According to MBSB Research, foreign institutions were net buyers on three of the four trading days, with the largest single-day inflow of RM56.5 million recorded on Friday.

Sector-wise, the largest foreign inflows were directed toward plantation (RM131.1 million), utilities (RM84.5 million), and healthcare (RM84 million). Conversely, the financial services sector saw the largest net outflow at RM309.7 million. Local institutional investors continued a trend of net selling, recording outflows of RM368 million over two consecutive weeks, while retail investors maintained a net buying trend for the fourth straight week with inflows of RM241 million.

In separate market activity, the FBM KLCI opened lower on Monday, dropping 3.27 points or 0.19% to 1,662.29 during early trading. Market sentiment was influenced by regional performance and concerns regarding the U.S. Federal Reserve's interest rate stance and high U.S. Treasury yields, which remained near 5.0%.
