Bursa Metropolitan Municipality preserves traditional glass art

The Bursa Metropolitan Municipality is working to preserve traditional Turkish glass decoration art through its Glass Workshop, operated under the municipal subsidiary Kültür A.Ş. The workshop features artists Sare Ateş and Aytaç Ateş, who hold the title of ‘Carriers of Intangible Cultural Heritage’ from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Each piece undergoes a meticulous production process lasting several weeks, involving techniques such as contour drawing, abrasion, painting, enameling, and gold or platinum gilding. The workshop utilizes nearly 350 different designs, reinterpreting traditional motifs like tulips, roses, carnations, and cypress trees through a contemporary lens to reflect Anatolian culture and Ottoman palace aesthetics.

The municipality aims to make these high-quality, handcrafted works more accessible to the public by offering them at affordable prices, thereby contributing to the protection and continuity of this cultural heritage.
