Bursa police officer faces indictment after fatal shooting
An off-duty police officer in the Osmangazi district of Bursa is facing legal proceedings following a fatal shooting during a confrontation at an entertainment venue. The incident began when 35-year-old Berk Keleş, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, entered into a dispute with staff over a bill.
According to the indictment, the situation escalated when Keleş shot an employee, Önder Y., in the leg. Keleş then entered a taxi and allegedly threatened bystanders with a firearm. An off-duty officer, identified as M. S., intervened and ordered Keleş to surrender. The prosecution alleges that Keleş fired several shots from inside the taxi toward the officer, prompting M. S. to return fire. Keleş sustained a gunshot wound to the head and died at the hospital.
While an indictment has been prepared for the charge of “intentional killing,” the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is evaluating the officer's actions under the scope of self-defense. The injured employee, Önder Y., has been discharged from the hospital, and the officer was previously released under judicial control.
