Bursa reenacts 700‑year‑old Orhan Gazi and Nilüfer Hatun wedding
The municipalities of Yenişehir and Keles jointly organized a historic reenactment in Bursa to commemorate the 700th anniversary of the marriage of Ottoman founder Orhan Gazi and Nilüfer Hatun. The ceremony began with a welcome at the Sinanpaşa külliyesi, followed by a procession to Yarhisar where participants visited the restored Orhan Hamam and prayed at the ancient Yarhisar Mosque. A traditional Mehter band and horse‑drawn carriage led a wedding parade through the streets of Yenişehir, ending at the historic municipal building.
Mayor Ercan Özel and local officials highlighted the event as a revival of the civilization’s founding spirit and a cultural legacy to be passed to future generations. Hundreds of citizens attended, and the celebration coincided with the 58th Kocayayla Festival, marking Bursa’s conquest 700 years ago.
