Bursa Technical University develops new hydrogen system technology

Bursa Technical University (BTÜ) has secured support for a new research project aimed at developing advanced membrane technologies for hydrogen production and fuel cells. Led by Assistant Professor Enes Muhammet Can of the Electrochemical Materials and Conversion (EMC-Lab) research group, the project focuses on creating next-generation, durable polymer electrolyte membranes.

The research utilizes hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) at an atomic scale to create a high gas barrier. This thin layer is intended to prevent gases from mixing within the system, which currently causes energy loss and safety concerns. By implementing this technology, researchers aim to increase the lifespan, efficiency, and safety of water electrolyzers and fuel cell systems. Associate Professor Yasin Altın is also participating in the research.
