Bursa Technical University develops new PCB-based motor technology

Bursa Technical University (BTÜ) has launched a project to develop a new generation of domestic electric motors using Printed Circuit Board (PCB) technology. Supported by the TÜBİTAK National New Ideas and Products Research Support Program, the project aims to replace traditional wire windings in motor stators with PCB technology.

This innovation is intended to create motors that are lighter, more compact, and easier to manufacture by reducing complex production stages and enabling more regular, repeatable manufacturing. The project, titled ‘Development of PCB Stator Axial Flux Brushless DC (BLDC) Motor’, will involve the creation and testing of two different motor prototypes, along with a specialized compact electronic driver.

The resulting technology is targeted for use in various sectors, including robotics, medical devices, aviation technology, and industrial automation. The research team is led by Professor Ahmet Fenercioğlu, with contributions from Dr. Oğuz Mısır of BTÜ and Dr. Sami Arslan from Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University.
