Bursa Technical University launches sleep‑inducing “Uyutan İplik” textile project

Bursa Technical University is leading a research project called “Uyutan İplik” that integrates natural volatile‑oil compounds into textile yarns using microcapsule technology. Funded by the Turkish Scientific and Technological Research Council (TÜBİTAK) under the TEYDEB 1505 university‑industry cooperation programme, the two‑year effort involves four partners: Bursa Technical University, Health Sciences University Bursa High‑Specialisation Education and Research Hospital, Üsküdar University and a private industry partner.

The aim is to create sleep‑aiding and stress‑relieving fabrics—such as pillow covers, sheets, pajamas and woven yarns—where the active ingredients are released gradually through friction, scent and skin contact. Five active components have been identified, encapsulated, and will be tested in clinical trials before the product is commercialised by the industry partner.
