Bursa Tophane archaeological excavations resume

Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Şahin Biba has announced the resumption of archaeological excavations in the Tophane district. The work, which began in July, is being conducted in coordination with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Bursa Museum Directorate.

The site, located in Haşim İşcan Park, includes ten separate galleries in the lower level of the area known as 'Old Palace'. These galleries contain historical traces from the Byzantine, Ottoman, and Hamidiye Gureba Hospital eras. Previous excavations have identified remains from the Iron Age, Archaic period, Byzantine, Late Roman, and Ottoman periods.

In addition to the ongoing excavations, the municipality is preparing a comprehensive restoration and environmental landscaping project. Officials are also exploring the possibility of integrating digital exhibition spaces within the galleries to preserve and showcase the region's multi-layered history.
