Bursa Uludağ University researches 116 years of agricultural transformation
Bursa Uludağ University (BUÜ) has reached the six-month milestone of a research project analyzing the agricultural transformation of the Bursa countryside between 1907 and 2023. Led by Associate Professor Hacer Karabağ Arslan, the study examines the social, cultural, economic, and environmental consequences of shifting production methods, such as the transition from traditional crops to modern fruit and vegetable farming.
The multidisciplinary project involves experts in history, agricultural economics, sociology, environmental engineering, and geography. Following an initial phase of archival research, newspaper scans, and statistical analysis, the next stage will involve field research and oral history interviews with more than 300 individuals across 65 villages.
Professor Cafer Çiftçi, Vice Rector of BUÜ and project advisor, noted that the study aims to fill a significant gap in academic literature and provides critical scientific data for the region.
