Bursa Uludağ University researches native Boz cattle breed

Researchers at Bursa Uludağ University's Faculty of Agriculture are highlighting the benefits of the native Boz cattle breed, an ancient genetic resource from Anatolia. Professor İbrahim Ak noted that these cattle are highly resilient to harsh environmental conditions and require minimal maintenance.

Key advantages of the breed include a high survival rate, with over 40 calves produced at the university without any losses. The cattle primarily feed on pasture and roughage, reducing the need for expensive factory feed. Additionally, the breed reproduces naturally without the need for artificial insemination or medical intervention during birth.

Beyond meat production, the breed is noted for its potential to help reduce forest fire risks through grazing. The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry provides support to producers to help preserve this genetic resource.
