Bursa village observes century-old wedding traditions

In the Derekızık village of the Kestel district in Bursa, a century-old wedding tradition was observed during the marriage of Tuğba Yılmaz and Serdar Kitapçı. The ceremony involved several ritualistic obstacles that delayed the wedding procession for approximately four hours.

Local youths initially blocked the bride's vehicle with a truck. The procession was subject to various demands, including the movement of food trays in small increments and a request for villagers to dance with chickens adorned with ribbons. To prove his skill, the groom, Serdar Kitapçı, was required to prepare Turkish coffee on a portable camping stove in the middle of the road.

Upon reaching the groom's house, the tradition continued as youths requested pieces of the groom's mother's dowry plates to be broken. The ceremony concluded with the tradition of filling the mouths of the groom and his best man with Turkish delight to symbolize being ‘sweet-tongued’.
