Bursa Water Authority Defends Monthly Tariff Updates Amid Price Increase Claims
The Bursa Water and Sewerage Administration (BUSKİ) issued a statement rejecting recent accusations that it imposes new monthly price hikes on water and wastewater services. The agency emphasized that the monthly tariff adjustments, which follow the Consumer Price Index (CPI), have been in place since 1996 under decisions of the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality and the BUSKİ General Board.
BUSKİ noted that the mechanism is a legally mandated cost‑update system defined by Law No. 2560, applied similarly by other large‑city water utilities in Turkey. It stressed that the updates are automatic, based on predefined criteria, and not a discretionary increase introduced by the current administration.
