Bursa woman Adalet Uzunoğlu on trial for dismembering husband
In Bursa, Turkey, Adalet Uzunoğlu, 69, appeared before the 4th Heavy Penal Court for the murder and dismemberment of her 77‑year‑old husband, retired police officer Ali Fuat Uzunoğlu. Prosecutors allege she stabbed the victim, cut the body into about 15 pieces with a hoe, packed the fragments in bags and discarded them in separate trash containers. Uzunoğlu denied killing him, claiming she found him motionless on the stairs, feared police suspicion, and acted out of panic. During the hearing she told the judge that the act was "very easy" because she was the one who cut the victim. She also alleged years of abuse and expressed fear of being blamed. The court ordered her continued detention, rejected a request for house arrest, and referred her for a psychiatric evaluation. Forensic analysis linked the blood and tissue evidence to the victim, and two of Uzunoğlu’s sons and a brother were released under judicial control. The trial has drawn significant public attention due to the brutality of the crime and the defendant’s statements.
